An idea that becomes a wine.

Two demijohns of dark-colored wine with an aggressive character give life to the first Black Mamba. We took a chance on a non-native grape variety planted in our soil: Teroldego. A bet that we are certain we have won.

The first harvest of September 2011 was obtained from the “wild” vineyard and allowed us to create a straightforward and intense wine, which, thanks to the dryness of the vintage, easily surpassed 15% alcohol. We still carefully keep a few bottles. The wine was very bold and dark in color, so it was immediately decided to name it Mamba Nero (after the well-known African snake). This exotic name comes from a curious anecdote that emerged during the purchase of the first land, which we are happy to share with our guests during the tastings.

The wild spirit of this wine intrigued us so much that we began studying the most effective way to “tame” it, to create a wine that was softer, rounder, in a word, more ready. We rightly considered it a great starting point for creating a product with infinite potential, aware that many years earlier, excellent quality Chianti Classico wine was produced from those very vineyards, and that was exactly what we needed to accept this challenge.

Here, the intuition of our Founder was born—the idea and the bet to plant Teroldego and Petit Verdot in the new vineyard, which, when combined with Sangiovese, would create a wine of great roundness and smoothness, the “souplesse,” as the French say.

In April 2018, after many attempts and with the help of our winemaker Daniele Innocenti, we finally achieved the result that fully satisfied us. Separate fermentations, the right balance of the blend, and the final bottle aging process ultimately made Mamba Nero a wine of great quality, ready to be marketed and begin delighting the tables of other guests. Finally, we were able to share with the world the efforts, hardships, and satisfactions in the production of our first wine.

The first Mamba Nero was bottled on July 13, 2018, and was released on the market in October of the same year. The 4,000 bottles produced were all sold within a few months, with a few “saved” for the archives to be kept in the cellar.

Mamba Nero is a wine that presents a bright ruby red color with violet reflections. On the nose, there are prominent scents of violet and red fruit. On the palate, it is balanced with notable structure, yet at the same time, thanks to the influence of Teroldego and Petit Verdot, it has a pleasant drinkability. This wine is ready to be enjoyed “young,” but thanks to the intrinsic characteristics of its grapes, it has aging potential that can extend up to 15 years.

This wine pairs perfectly with roasts and game, as well as with pasta dishes in rich sauces.
