A tribute to the past with an eye to the future.

A land rich in history, through which knights and leaders passed on their way to new conquests. The sharp iron weapons were the weapon, exclusively produced in Montefioralle, used by these knights, and it is from them that this noble wine gets its name.

Monteficalle, land of grapes and blades.

In Monteficalle—originally the village’s name before it was changed in the 1800s to Montefioralle, as the former was deemed “less appropriate”—there was a notable specialization. Most of the young men were either blacksmiths or farmers.
So skilled and renowned were these craftsmen that thirteen of them were registered as maestri (masters) in the Guild of Blacksmiths. This guild brought together farriers, swordsmiths, buckle makers, tinners, helmet and armor makers, as well as true blacksmiths—those who forged plowshares, spades, saws, axes, scales, chains, knife grinders, cutlers, and more.

The Guild of Blacksmiths bore a black pair of pincers on a white field as its emblem. Its patron saint was St. Eligius, whose feast was celebrated on June 25th at the Church of Orsanmichele.

Among the dozen forges within the village, a large number specialized in crafting sharp iron toolsfinely made knives that were highly sought after by nobles and knights, who would travel specifically to Montefioralle to purchase them.

Over the centuries, this tradition gradually faded, and the blacksmiths were “replaced” by winemakers—creators of an exceptional product that defines this part of Tuscany. That is why we chose to honor our roots by naming our Chianti Classico DOCG Ferro Tagliente.

A tribute to the long history of this land, stretching between Greve in Chianti, Panzano, and Badia a Passignano, to which we are deeply connected and which it best represents with its bold character and its bright ruby red color with violet reflections.

The aroma immediately reveals floral notes accompanied by hints of red fruit and graphite, with subtle undertones of the forest floor. On the palate, it is lively and fresh, with bold tannins that, thanks to the final bottle aging, achieve a perfect balance of flavors. The chalky mineral notes, as well as the red fruit flavors noticeable in the aroma, persist in the long aftertaste. It is a wine with great territorial character that pairs wonderfully with traditional Tuscan cuisine. Perfect with cured meats and aged cheeses, and especially with grilled meats. It is ideal with the Queen of Florentine cuisine, the Bistecca, as it fully enhances its characteristics.
